Global law firm White & Case LLP has advised US battery recycling group Ecobat on the sale of its battery recycling and specialty lead business to Clarios, a leading global provider of energy storage solutions.

The transaction, which is subject to antitrust approvals and expected to close in early 2026, includes Ecobat's German sites in Freiberg and Braubach and Austrian site in Arnoldstein. The sale supports Ecobat's focus on its core business and, in particular, on expanding its global lithium-ion battery business.

The transaction follows the sale of Ecobat Resources Stolberg GmbH (ERS) in 2023 and the 2021 acquisition of German lithium battery recycling plant and business Promesa group, on which a team from White & Case also advised.

The White & Case team which advised on the transaction was led by partners Jarlath McGurran (New York) and Hans-Georg Schulze (Berlin) and included partners Norbert Wimmer (Berlin), Bodo Bender, Sebastian Stütze (both Frankfurt), Thilo Wienke (Düsseldorf) and Lindsey Canning (London), local partner Alisa Preissler (Frankfurt), counsel Andreas van den Eikel (Berlin) and associates Fabian Mayer, Constantin Meimberg, Su-Yeoun Park, Galina Wedel (all Berlin), Martin Junker (Berlin & Frankfurt), Justus Redeker (Frankfurt), Neeraja Chemburkar, Claire Slunecko and Kathleen McConchie (all London).
