Global law firm White & Case LLP has expanded its Global International Trade Practice with the addition of Iain MacVay as a partner in London.

"The redefinition of trading relationships caused by the UK's departure from the EU is a significant issue for many White & Case clients," said White & Case partner Gregory Spak, head of the Firm's Global International Trade Practice. "Our objective is to support clients with issues related to Brexit and continue growing our role as a leading advisor on Brexit more broadly. Iain's arrival is a clear demonstration of that commitment."

MacVay advises a range of clients including industry associations, companies and governments on international trade law and policy, especially the impact of Brexit and the future EU-UK relationship. He helps clients to take advantage of international trade agreements, including the World Trade Organisation and bilateral trade agreements around the world. MacVay's practice includes UK and EU law on customs, export controls, sanctions, anti-dumping, anti-subsidy and safeguard measures. He works extensively with the European Commission and the UK government on EU law and international trade law matters affecting third country markets, and has experience in the life sciences, food and beverage, agriculture, petrochemicals, services, agriculture and industrial equipment sectors, among others. MacVay brings more than 25 years of experience to White & Case, and is one of the few highly-ranked international trade lawyers in the UK market. He joins the Firm from King & Spalding.

"Iain is a highly experienced trade lawyer with substantive knowledge of trade policy and a thorough understanding of key public institutions," said White & Case partner Jost Kotthoff, Regional Section Head, EMEA Competition. "We are well-positioned to advise on premium Brexit-related trade matters and Iain's presence in London, combined with his strong existing relationships with our trade teams in Brussels and Geneva, distinguish White & Case from the competition and provide our clients with a compelling proposition."

Partner Oliver Brettle, London-based member of White & Case's global Executive Committee, said: "Iain is an important, high quality addition to our London office who strengthens the Brexit support our clients already receive at a critical moment in the UK's exit from the EU. Following the recent arrivals in London of tax partner Will Smith and private equity partner Sandra Rafferty, Iain is another strategically significant addition."
