White & Case Hires Senior In-House Technology Lawyer as a Partner

The Firm Welcomes Back Howard Wettan to Expand its Technology, Fintech and Payments Offerings

Global law firm White & Case LLP announced today that Howard Wettan has rejoined its Silicon Valley office as a partner in the Firm's Global Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) and Technology Transactions Practices.

Wettan returns to White & Case from Visa, where he was a Vice President and Associate General Counsel in the Technology & Strategic Partnerships group. Prior to Visa, Wettan worked as a Senior Counsel in the Apple legal department, where he advised and negotiated key transactions involving the launch of Apple Pay and supported various hardware product development teams.

The addition of Wettan supports the Firm's strategy of vigorously growing its intellectual property and technology-focused capabilities.

Wettan has wide-ranging experience in the fintech space, having worked on major licensing and commercial transactions in the payments sector with the largest technology companies and financial institutions in the United States and around the world. He also advises on all aspects of technology transactions, including M&A, capital markets, bank finance, outsourcing, supply chain, and strategic joint ventures and collaborations.

"Howard is an outstanding lawyer who will add technology depth and industry background to our global M&A and Technology Transactions Practices. At the end of the day, technology expertise is now needed on almost every deal we do," said White & Case partner John Reiss, Head of the Firm's Global M&A Practice. Reiss added, "We are particularly excited to welcome Howard back to White & Case. Howard previously spent eight years with us, and now he will contribute the expertise and experience in technology, fintech and payments gained from years as a senior lawyer at two iconic technology companies."

Wettan also commented, "White & Case made me the lawyer I am today. Leaving Visa is bitter-sweet for me; however, this is a compelling opportunity to use the experience I have gained in the past several years to help White & Case make its M&A and Technology Transactions Practices even bigger successes."
